    6. Adapting your body language to demonstrate that you are listening and that you really understand what is being said for instance, making sure that you are nodding and smiling in the right places and adopting an appropriate posture.

    7. Concentrating full on the moment and picking up on the mood of the person who is speaking as well as the actual words they are using.

    Those listening skills will really benefit you in all your interpersonal communications, no matter what the purpose or who you are trying to communicate with. Some speaking skills are generic too, and therefore useful in all communication:

    1. Speak clearly so that your words can be understood. Quite often people will be too embarrassed to ask you to repeat yourself so you need to take the responsibility for being as clear as possible.

    2. Use a vocabulary that can be understood by your listeners. Interpersonal communication is about being understood it is not about showing off how wide your vocabulary is or how many long words you know.

    3. Use an appropriate pace and volume. You can t be heard, you can t be understood or effectively communicate anything.

    4. Make your call to action clear so that your listeners know what you want them to do.

    5. Check people s understanding. Don t probe, but you could ask questions to check your audience s understanding, or if you feel that your audience knows you well enough and will tell you if they don t understand anything or have a question to ask, you could invite questions.

    A person who is able to have conversations with difficult people is considered to have highly developed communication skills. There are so many difficult people out there. What constitutes a difficult person anyway?

    If a person has a different background, different values, and different personality than yours then consider that person to be a difficult person. If you want to be able to communicate with difficult people then you should keep some of these pointers in mind.

    1. Build bridges, not walls. If you want to talk to a difficult person then you have to fish for the similarities that you have, no matter how small they are. If you keep on bringing up the differences that the two of you have then you are going to build barriers between you. You certainly do not want this to happen. You might end up fighting and debating with this person. This is the last thing that you want to happen. Focus on the similarities.

    Do you have similar hair? Do you share the same subject in school? Do you have the same car? What is it that makes the two of you similar? Find it as soon as you can and talk about it.

    2. Laughter is the way to go. If you want to make a difficult person loosen up then you might want to try cracking a joke or two. If you can make this person laugh then this person will be less difficult to talk to.

    You have to try and find out what kind of humour this difficult person is into. Will this person laugh to knock-knock jokes? Do you think that this person will laugh when you tell an anecdote? Does this person love intellectual humour and intellectual jokes? Always have different genres of jokes under your sleeve so that you can work with different kinds of people.

    3. Share a meal. If you want to talk to a difficult person then you should try having a meal together. A difficult person certainly eats. Everyone eats! Sharing a meal is one of the most common cultural practices around the world. No matter what kind of nationality or race you are from, sharing a meal is something almost anyone does.

    The only things that you have to worry about are allergies and preferences. Find out the common things that you and the difficult person like to eat and share a meal. Share humanity and share life. Difficult people will simply share their lives with you too.

    4. Always maintain your poise. Do not get affected by harsh remarks because sometimes difficult people are really like this. If you want to get through to a difficult person then you should be the one to be more patient and more kind. You are not going to go anywhere if you are just as difficult as the difficult person, right? If you want to get through to a difficult person then you should be leading the conversation. You should be the one that is more poised.

    5. You have to be sincere. Do not lie or make up things when you are with a difficult person. There are a lot of difficult people out there that can tell if someone is lying or not. The last thing that you want from a difficult person is being branded as a liar. If people think that you are a liar then they will avoid you. The difficult person will become even more difficult. Always be sincere and do not lie.

    How To Stop A Prank Caller With A Phone Number Trace

    When the phone rings, we always hope there is someone on the other end of the line that we wish to speak with, even when we don t really have the time to talk. There are unwelcome calls that you can ignore, but there are some that you simply cannot. When you have a prank caller, you probably have no idea what their intentions might be. Some call once and that is the end of it, but there are some that keep calling. There is usually a motive behind repeated calls, and those motives might not be so nice. When that happens, you should know how to report those prank calls so you can get some help.

    If you have begun to get prank calls, you should start a log. Keep a notepad and a pen by your phone, and record when someone calls, what they say, and how long the call lasted. If you don t want to answer the phone, just write down when the call occurs. This will help you when you call someone to report what is going on. It is important to remember that if you can see the number, you should avoid the calls. You can tell the caller once to stop calling, but any contact after that will encourage them. If possible, don t answer.

    With your notes in hand, plus the number if it comes up on your caller identification, you should call the phone company to report the caller. Give them the information that you have, and then ask them if they can help you. If the calls are threatening in any way, shape, or form, you also have to call your local police to report the threat. If needed, the police and the phone company can work together to stop the calls and press charges if that is an option.

    There are a few things the phone company can do. If you do indeed have a number, they can find out who is calling rather quickly and painlessly. Most of the time, however, prank callers know how to disguise their number, or they move about to random phones in random locations to avoid detection and positive identification. In those cases, the phone company can try to trace the calls through what is known as a phone trap.

    If you are going to do a phone trap, the phone company can hook something up to your line to try to trace the incoming phone calls. When this happens, you have to keep working on the log you started when you first got the calls. Your information about time of call, length of call, and what was said can then allow the phone company to pinpoint the origin of the calls. Though this doesn t always work, it can be effective. The information can then be used by authorities and the phone company to stop the harassment.

    Communications and Information Storage History

    Developments related to information technology involved major advances in communication, such as the telegraph - which was really an electronic improvement on ancient methods such as drums and smoke signals, and later semaphore communication.

    The first telegraph was actually built in 1809, but the technology matured during the mid-nineteenth century with the development of methods whereby actual images could be transmitted electronically (1843). With the laying of the Transatlantic Cable in 1866, communication that once took weeks or months could be accomplished in minutes.

    Further advances included the development of wireless communication in the 1890 s, and the combination of this technology with the typewriter to create the teletype machine in the early 20th century.

    Thomas Edison was the first to come up with a way to store sound information with the invention of the phonograph in 1877, but it was really the development of audio magnetic recording tape in 1926 by German inventor Fritz Pfleumer that would become a method of storing information electronically.

    Magnetic tape was initially used for recording sound. The technology finally arrived in the U.S. after the Second World War, and early computer engineers soon found uses for it. Magnetic audio tape was used to store data by the UNIVAC I computer of 1951.

    What is interesting is how the information was stored - which differs little from the basic way information is stored today. If you were to listen to a magnetic tape on which computer data was stored, you would hear a series of beeps of varying lengths - but consisting of only two pitches. These are basically “ones” and “zeros” - the building blocks of all computer data.

    Today, we are able to store, process and transmit more information than ever before in history, using nothing more than two symbols! 1 0

    Information Technology Since 1980

    The development during the 1970 s of integrated circuits and the microprocessor were the advances that began the real revolution in computing. Before the 1970 s, computers were huge, extremely expensive, and relatively slow.

    Integrated circuits and microprocessors made possible the development of smaller, faster machines that were priced within the reach of more people. “Personal computers” had actually been around since the early 1950 s (computing pioneer Edmund Berkeley published plans for a PC which he called “Simon” in Radio Electronics magazine in 1950 and 51).

    However, the Apple II, released in April of 1977 (price: about $1300) was the first modern desktop computer featuring an interactive, graphical interface made widely available and affordable to the general public.1

    The other significant development came in the early 1990 s when a system of little-known academic and military networks dating from the late 1960 s and early 1980 s suddenly exploded into popularity. The World Wide Web, or Internet, has changed the way people access information, communicate and even entertainment itself.

    Separate devices such as telephones, televisions and cameras are now becoming single devices that encompass all of these functions. Meanwhile, the power and capability of computers continues to go up while the cost of the technology continues to drop. Still, waiting to take advantage of technology will be a mistake.
