Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Ltd.’s Xperia X1 mobile phone, the model intended to compete with Apple Inc.’s iPhone, may not be sold before Christmas, Dagens Nyheter reported.

The Windows 6.1 operating system does not work as planned on the handsets, DN said, citing a spokesman for Sony Ericsson it didn’t identify. Xperia will be introduced as planned during the fourth quarter, the Stockholm-based newspaper quoted Merran Wrigley, a spokesman for Sony Ericsson, as saying.

Sony Ericsson, a joint venture between Ericsson AB and Sony Corp. of Japan, is the smallest of the world’s top five mobile- phone makers.

In a move to attract more developers to Google Android, the company has decided to share early details of how the application distribution will look like. Android Market will be an open content distribution system, which aims to help end users find, purchase, download and install various types of content on their Android-powered devices.

Android Market will initially offer freeware applications only, in combination with a feedback and rating system similar to YouTube. Similar to YouTube, content can debut in the marketplace after completing three steps: register as a merchant, upload and describe your content and publish it.

Unlike Nokia’s marketplace, and eventually Apple’s App Store, the Android Marketplace will allow unsigned applications to be distributed; it seems like Palm could get some serious competition for its upcoming OS. Google also intend to provide developers with a dashboard and analytics to help improve their offerings. The first handsets are promised to be enabled with a beta version of Android Market.

Though a date has not been set, Google plans to roll out a final release of Android Market shortly after the HTC Dream has hit store shelves. Then, developers will be able to offer paid content and more features such as versioning and multiple device profile support. With the addition of a marketplace that combines both freeware and paid applications, Google hopes to have made the Android ecosystem more robust.

The only missing piece of the puzzle is to hook up Google AdSense for mobile, but we guess it’ll come sooner rather than later.

No matter how convenient these methods of communication are, some things are still better when done face-to-face. So next time you are tempted to break up with your boyfriend or girlfriend in a text message, think back to a simpler time, and don t be a coward. A short time ago I had the occasion to watch a current film version of “The Diary of Anne Frank”. I was once again reminded of the power of words to change lives, inspire spirits and challenge our thoughts.

The simple observations of a young 14-year-old girl in a time of great oppression have served to inspire hundreds of thousands of other people who have never set foot upon her homeland or experienced the horrors of war. Yet, Anne Frank s words have survived the bombs, the death camps and the cruelties of the 2nd World War and have somehow connected us to the private thoughts of a girl facing adolescence while trying to grow up in a world gone mad.

So, when people tell me that the “soft skills” have no impact, I think of the power of Anne s words - and how they may have changed the course of history by reaching out and connecting us with the values that we need to drive our countries and our businesses into the future.

When people challenge me that the “soft skills” and learning to connect with each other isn t important in the “real world”, I am reminded of her simple yet elegant descriptions, of the way her words helped us to experience her feelings and to understand. Her words, with their honesty and, at times, heart searching questions, have challenged us to put our values to work and stand up for our beliefs before someone else gets to decide what those beliefs are.

What a gift she has left and what a power her words have over us - to lead us, to inspire us, to guide us to be something better than we ever thought possible.

As a businessperson, I ask you this question: what do you want your reputation to be? What legacy do your words leave?

A reputation is based on your values and how your express those values in your everyday words and actions. It s about walking your talk daily and with authenticity. It s about effecting change wisely, with impact, meaning, and responsibility.
